Formula
PUE = total facility energy ÷ IT energy. Non-IT energy = total facility energy − IT energy.
Worked example
125,000 kWh total facility energy divided by 100,000 kWh IT energy gives PUE 1.25.
What this calculation does not cover
Use the same time period, energy units and reporting boundary for both values. PUE does not measure useful compute output, carbon intensity or water consumption.
